Lesson 15
Original Vows of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva Sutra
What can we do to truly help a loved one after death? In Lesson 15 of the Ksitigarbha Sutra, Khenpo Sodargye explains why the forty-nine days after death are considered especially important. He discusses prayer flags, lamp offerings, sutra recitation, sacred offerings, and other virtuous practices that may benefit both the deceased and their living relatives.
The lesson also warns against killing animals or making harmful sacrifices for the deceased—and reminds us not to wait until death to begin practicing virtue.
