Can karma that seems fixed and unavoidable still be transformed? In Lesson 03 of the Ksitigarbha Sutra, Khenpo Sodargye recounts the story of a man who died, encountered the Lord of Death, and returned to life through the intervention of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva.

Through this remarkable account, Khenpo explains the power of faith, prayer, and Ksitigarbha’s extraordinary connection with beings in the age of Dharma decline. He also encourages practitioners to find at least one Dharma practice that genuinely transforms their lives, rather than studying many teachings only superficially. The lesson then returns to the sutra, where Manjushri Bodhisattva asks the Buddha about Ksitigarbha’s inconceivable vows, spiritual power, and countless lifetimes of liberating beings.
