The Vimalakirti Sutra
The Vimalakirti Sutra Lesson 11 The main speaker of this session is Khenpo Sodargye Vimalakirti's Methods of Benefiting Diverse Social Groups
In this session of the Vimalakirti Sutra, Khenpo Sodargye continues to expound on the Chapter on Skillful Means, focusing on Vimalakirti's interaction with various levels of society. Before delving into the sutra, Khenpo addresses internal matters at Larung Gar, emphasizing the necessity of written essays in studying the Five Great Treatises and sternly reminding volunteers of their karmic responsibilities. In the main teaching, Khenpo explains that skillful means are required whether managing worldly affairs or propagating the Dharma. Vimalakirti demonstrated this by entering into governmental and judicial circles to protect the oppressed and rectify injustices. He attended philosophical debates to guide scholars into the Mahayana vehicle, and visited schools to inspire the younger generation. Furthermore, to deliver beings from strong afflictions, he actively went to places like brothels and taverns to reveal the faults of worldly desire and awaken those lost in stupor. Through these diverse connections, he taught patience to kings, humility to Brahmans, justice to ministers, and encouraged common people to accumulate merit, embodying the limitless adaptability of a true Bodhisattva.
