Mangala Sutta
Khenpo Sodargye expounds on the Theravada Buddhist Mangala Sutta (Discourse on Blessings). In this sutra, the Buddha answers a deity's question about auspiciousness by presenting ten methods of practice that bring the highest blessings: associating with the wise, dwelling in suitable places, extensive learning and maintaining precepts, honoring parents, practicing generosity and helping others, abstaining from misconduct, cultivating respect and contentment, practicing patience and compliance, leading a pure life and comprehending the Noble Eightfold Path, and maintaining an unshakeable mind free from the eight worldly concerns and afflictions. Khenpo emphasizes that spiritual practice must begin with preliminary practices to tame the mind, and that following this sutra's teachings will surely bring genuine auspiciousness and liberation.
