The Benefits of the Vajra Guru Mantra
Teachings by Khenpo Sodargye. In two profound teachings, Khenpo Sodargye elucidates the origin, benefits, and method of practicing the Guru Rinpoche mantra: “Om Ah Hung Benza Guru Pema Siddhi Hung.” In this degenerate age marked by turmoil and suffering, reciting this mantra invokes the blessings of the Buddhas of the three times, dispels disease, famine, warfare, and natural disasters. Khenpo explains that each syllable of the mantra embodies the essence of the Five Buddha Families, the 84,000 Dharma teachings, peaceful and wrathful deities, and the entire mandala of enlightened beings. He emphasizes the importance of faith and mindfulness, encouraging practitioners to recite the mantra regularly—formally with refuge, bodhicitta, and guru yoga, or informally during daily activities. With unwavering devotion, one can receive direct blessings, achieve liberation, and ultimately be reborn in Guru Rinpoche’s pure land. This mantra is not only the heart of Vajrayana practice but also a powerful remedy for inner afflictions and outer calamities in our time. How does Buddhism interpret disasters? How can we prevent and face them?In his teachings, Khenpo Sodargye offers profound insights that guide people from disaster toward hope — showing a path that brings light and strength to oneself and to others.
