The Vimalakirti Sutra
The Vimalakirti Sutra Lesson 05 The main speaker of this session is Khenpo Sodargye Introduction to the assembly and celestial guests
In this teaching, Khenpo Sodargye highlights the importance of enduring patience and perseverance when systematically studying the Mahayana Sutras. He details the magnificent assembly described in the Vimalakirti Sutra, where ten thousand Brahma kings, twelve thousand Indras, the eight classes of devas and nagas, alongside the human four-fold community, gather to hear the Dharma. The teaching then vividly illustrates the profound scene where the elder's son, Bodhisattva Ratnakara, along with five hundred companions, offers precious canopies to the Buddha. Through his inconceivable spiritual power, the Buddha merges these canopies into one, revealing all the myriad worlds and Buddhas of the ten directions like a vast virtual reality. Finally, Khenpo explains Ratnakara's sublime verses of praise, which honor the Buddha's immaculate physical form, profound internal purification, and sovereign mastery over both conventional phenomena and ultimate emptiness as the true King of Dharma.
